Chilean Kiwi Committee: lower production volumes, however enhanced quality of kiwifruit
VU
According to the latest Kiwi Report of the Chilean Kiwi Committee, this season there are lower production volumes, however the mild summer influenced in reaching good levels of dry matter and soluble solids in the fruit, characteristics that ensure good conditions of storage and an extended supply.
Carlos Cruzat, the president of the Committee, commented that despite the high demand in the markets, the Chilean harvests have been carried out without a rush to achieve good quality.
He added that together with a lower production expected for this season, and the rise in demand for the fruit, conditioned by its high concentration of vitamin C, today there is a significant demand from the markets for kiwis in the southern hemisphere.
According to Cruzat, the increases in harvest maturity parameters achieved by the Committee members in the last five seasons reflected in better storage and consumer satisfaction. The rise in consumption and demand for kiwi was observed not only in traditional markets, but also in markets in Southeast Asia and India.
