The demand for American sweet potato is growing rapidly in the European Union.
In 2011, 49% of the volume of sweet potatoes consumed in the EU came from the United States. In 2014, the percentage has increased to 63%. Last year 46,000 tonnes of US sweet potatoes were imported in Europe (Germany, France, Benelux), doubling the volumes shipped in 2009.
The area sown has increased this year and production should also grow. The 1st harvests take place in September and the 1st arrivals in Europe are expected in early October.
