Zimbabwe's exports to the UK grew by 276 percent between 2012 and 2018, according to ZimTrade, which expects further growth.
According to ZimTrade exports to the United Kingdom increased from $ 30 million in 2012 to $ 112 million in 2018, or + 276%. Since 2012, the United Kingdom has been one of the main export markets for Zimbabwean products in the EU. Last year, it was the 3rd best export market, with 21% of all products shipped to the EU.
Zimbabwe's exports to the United Kingdom consisted of diamonds, peas, everything from oranges, avocados, peaches, nectarines, raspberries and passion fruit.
According to ZimTrade, diamonds accounted for 72% of total exports last year. It is therefore necessary to strengthen exports which would meet a strong demand on the British market. Like organic food, a niche where Zimbabwe has great potential. ZimTrade is currently working with 22 pineapple producers to obtain organic certification in order to gain access to the UK market.
