San Francisco - city of vegetables

In San Francisco vegetables are grown everywhere: on old highway junctions, balconies and on the roofs of public buildings.
Around the world, the trend for local food is growing, but in San Francisco it is going further than most with farms setting up in the city.
The mayor of the city changed the urban law to make it legal to sell fruits and vegetables grown in town. They are planted on rooftops, balconies and on the roofs of public buildings and even on the grounds of an old highway junction destroyed by the earthquake of 1989.
This has allowed more access to fresh, natural foods and has reduced transportation costs and the environmental footprint of fruit and vegetables.
