Production is expected to rise

A slight increase of 3% is expected for the French production of strawberries.
This year, the French production of strawberries will rise slightly according to latest figures from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Production should reach 47,400 tons this year, up 3% compared with 2010. Favorable climatic conditions in addition to an increase in area should result in good performance.
Cultivated areas have increased of 1% to 2,900 hectares. The areas under protection would be down of 2%, while the aboveground increase by 8%. In geographic areas, areas are declining in South West (-3% compared to 2010), in increase in the Southeast (+2%) and in Midwest (+6%).
