Increase in exports of strawberries

In Turkey, the strawberry production with new production technologies in greenhouse soilless, requiring less staff and increasing the yield per plant, resulted in a steady increase of exports of strawberries from the country in recent years. 

Farmers have not been slow to adapt to new technologies. Sahinler Tarim, a company specializing in manufacturing technologies soilless hydroponic, has installed 7,000 and 13,000 square meters of greenhouses of strawberries in early 2013.

The main production area is that of Mersin-Anamur, followed by the Antalya region. In 2012, Turkey exported about 22,000 tons of strawberries, placing this product in 17th position among the fruits and vegetables exported. The main destination countries are Russia, followed by Romania, Bulgaria and Iraq.
