EU plans to further open its market to Ukrainian products

"By removing customs duties and opening up the European market, we will strengthen Ukraine's ability to trade goods and agricultural products," said Sandra Kalniete (Latvia) and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
The International Trade Committee has given the green light to open the EU market more widely to Ukraine, by removing taxes/customs duties on various products (industrial products, steel, fruits and vegetables) in order to support the Ukrainian economy.
This suspension of taxes/customs duties is planned for 1 year. The measures include the total abolition of European import taxes on industrial products, the abolition of taxes on steel, the abolition of taxes on fruit and vegetables.

With these unprecedented trade liberalization measures, we are committed to helping Ukraine maintain its position trade with the rest of the world. When we say that Ukraine is not alone in this struggle, we really mean it," said Sandra Kalniete (Latvia) and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
The project has been adopted and should be subject to an accelerated procedure with a view to a vote by all MEPs. The measure will apply the day after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
Relations between the EU and Ukraine are governed by an Association Agreement. Agreement which has provided Ukrainian companies with preferential access to the EU market since 2016. The EU is Ukraine's largest trading partner and accounted for more than 40% of its total trade in goods in 2021. Ukraine was the EU's 15th largest trading partner, accounting for around 1.2% of overall EU trade.
