Peruvian exports of organic banana surpass $91 million

The department of Piura is the leading producer and exporter of organic bananas in Peru. Its participation in the sector is 93%. The province of Sullana is the most important area of the department, followed by the provinces of Morropón, Piura and Paita.
Until the second week of August 2021 (week 32), the value of banana exports reached more than $91 million.
According to Piura Exporta, more than 7.18 million boxes of 18.14 kg were exported to 15 world markets, for an average price of $ 12.69 per box.
The peak of sales was recorded in mid-June with sales over $ 4.3 million, which represented an increase of 47.6% compared to the same period in 2020.
The most significant decrease in sales was observed in March, May and the first week of June.
The main destinations are the Netherlands, USA, Panama, Belgium, South Korea.
