Global demand for table grapes is due to increase

Excellent prospects for the table grapes sector, global demand for grape imports will reach 2.7 million tonnes, according to estimates from the US Department of Agriculture.
The FAS report estimates world production for 2016/17 at 20.9 million tonnes of table grapes. China will produce 10.2 million tons, India 2.8 million tons, Turkey 2.4 million tons, the EU 1.7 million tons, the US 1 million tons, Brazil 959 000 tons, Chile 910 000 tons, Peru 605 000 tons.
For the period under review, world imports will increase from 183,500 tonnes to 2.7 million tonnes. China will boost its demand to 249,000 tons, particularly Chile and Australia. The EU to 608 000 tonnes with higher shipments from India. Hong Kong to 232,000 tons with higher deliveries from Chile.
World exports are expected to reach 2.8 million. Those of Chile could total 688 000 tons, those of Hong Kong 190 000 tons to China, those of India 160 000 tons for larger shipments to the EU and Bangladesh, and those of Peru 340 000 tons
