From the 1st to the 7th of October, Italy is hosting the 8th International Symposium of Table Grapes, the major scientific event of the sector.
The University of Foggia organized scientific sessions, guided tours and a round table on logistics and market issues held in Apulia from the 1st to the 5th of October. Then, on the 6th and 7th of October, scientific sessions and visits of installations and orchards are planned in Sicily.
Italy was chosen not only because it is one of the main producers of table grapes, but also because of its contribution to innovation in this sector. The concept of the Symposium was developed in Italy in 1991. Since then, the scientific community and professionals from all over the world have met every 3-4 years in one of the major countries of the sector. The last Symposium was held in Australia in 2014.
As well as being an opportunity to discuss sector issues, the event provides an opportunity to discuss progress and compare the results of international research. Various topics are on the agenda: types of production, marketing; ecology, biology and physiology of production; genetic resources; innovative cropping techniques; post-harvest and processing; pest and disease control.
