Its production has been multiplied seven-fold since 1988, reaching in 2013 approximately 385 000 tons of which one third is exported. This figure places Turkey in the 3rd place of world producer after India and Iran.
Almost half of the production is produced in the region of Antalya and Mugla and the increase in the production by about 22 percent has affected the export of about 40,000 tons in December. Despite lower prices obtained, this remains a product that has the wind in its sails. Producers are also developing fruit juices and other products that increase the capital gain of the product.
