The volume shipped by Iran accounts for 8% of total world exports.
One of the largest date producers in the world, Iran produces about 1 million tons per year but exports only 80,000 tons.
The National Association of Date Producers said that Iran, over the last 15 years, has recorded a production that totaled 1 million tons per year. According to the agency, the national demand absorbs 600,000 tons, 320,000 tons end up in feed for livestock and only 80,000 tons are exported.
Main destinations: North America, Europe, Russia and neighboring countries including the Emirates where dates are often repackaged and shipped to other countries such as India, Pakistan, Malaysia and Bangladesh.
