In Germany, according to the latest estimates, the 2023 harvest is set to be the smallest since 2013.
According to Destatis, the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, the 2023 asparagus harvest is estimated at 105,700 tonnes. This represents the lowest harvest volume since 2013, down 4% on 2022 and 14.48% on the 2017-2022 average (123,600 tonnes).
According to Destatis, this decline in German production could be due to the reduction in the area under production, which is estimated at 20,500 hectares, or -4% compared to 2022. Another factor could be the fall in demand, which has led to a reduction in the area under cultivation and a drop in the volume of the harvest.
