Egypt has increased transit fees for ships passing through the Suez Canal

Connecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, the Suez Canal is one of the most important waterways in the world. About 10% of world trade passes through the Suez Canal.
SCA (Suez Canal Authority) announced that these increases followed the development and improvement of the transit service and the significant growth in world trade.
The increase in transit fees varies according to the type of vessel. Thus, an increase of +10% for vessels transporting liquefied petroleum gas, chemicals and other bulk liquid products. +5% increase for tankers and dry bulk vessels and +7% increase for vessels carrying vehicles, natural gas and general cargo as well as general purpose vessels.
Last year 20,649 ships passed through the Suez Canal, an increase of 10% compared to 18,830 ships in 2020. Canal revenues in 2021 reached USD 6.3 billion, the highest amount of his history.
