Chinese products shunned by consumers
MD
Vietnamese consumers are rejecting Chinese agricultural products as dangerous and unhealthy.
Over the last 5 years Chinese agricultural products have been flooding wholesale and retail markets in Vietnam. The market in Ho Chi Minh City used to receive 200 tons of Chinese fruits and vegetables a day. But in recent months the volumes imported from China have not exceeded 50-60 tons per day.
This decrease is the consequence of the lack of consumer trust in the quality of Chinese food. Hazardous chemicals, scandals and epidemics have tarnished the image of Chinese product.
The Vietemese are turning to local products and imported goods considered safe from the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Chile.
