The new GEM variety boosts the range of Californian avocados

In a few weeks, a new marketing season will begin for GEM avocado, the new variety that expands and energizes the range of Californian avocados.

 

 

 

INDEX FRESH, based in California, is a global distributor of avocados. The new GEM variety has sparked enthusiasm since its introduction and there is now about 1 to 2 years of waiting list for GEM trees.

 

 

 

GEM is a high yielding variety which allows an efficient harvest. The new GEM variety offers consumers a new quality experience while being complementary to the HASS variety. "We think it will only boost the overall category and increase overall sales without taking anything away from the HASS variety," said Todd Elder, vice president of sales at Index Fresh.

 

 

 

 

 

In 2020, GEM avocado will be available for 6 to 8 weeks, from the 1st week of April. In the future, the volume and length of the season will increase.
