The strong international demand makes it possible to consider the production of nuts as a very profitable alternative crop.
In the Philippines the Ministry of Agriculture encourages farmers to develop macadamia nut cultivation as an alternative commercial production.
From the ministry's perspective, macadamia nut production would be a good alternative for farmers. The capital to invest is relatively low, the crop requires few inputs and tolerates drought fairly well. A program has started to provide quality seeds and to develop appropriate methods. Management of nurseries, demonstration orchards and dissemination of information materials.
Macadamia nuts have potential in the country either as a component of agroforestry systems or as commercial production. International demand remains very sustained.
