Morocco, citrus fruits' exports down 18.3%

Despite a nominative 0.9% rise in exported volumes, the value of Moroccan citrus fruit exports fell by 18.3% in the first eight months of 2007 compared to the same period of 2006, reaching 120 million euros. According to the latest data released by Trade Office, 328,000 tons were exported against the 325,700 tons exported at the end of August 2006.
The drop in the value of exports, the same source specifies, is due to the lower prices of citrus fruit on the international market. In fact the price fell by 17.5%, from 452 euro per ton at the end of August 2006 to 373 euro nowadays.
Regarding vegetables and tomatoes, the value of their exports rose respectively by 17.4% and by 54.8% in the period January-August 2007, reaching 118 million and 92 million euro.
