Tajikistan has seen a drop in its fruit and vegetable imports compared to the same period last year. The increase in local production explains this decrease in imported volumes.
According to the customs department, in the region of Sogd, where the largest number of import-export operations of fruits and vegetables are carried out, imports during 10 months of this year have decreased. Imports totaled 11 650 tonnes, 653 tonnes less than in 2018.
The country is now producing enough carrots, turnips, onions, walnuts, figs and peanuts for domestic consumption.
Among imported products, the volume of leguminous vegetables and almonds has decreased. On the other hand, the volume of bananas totaled 1662 tons, ie 432 tons more than last year. The country does not produce bananas, so demand increases imports also increase.
In terms of value, canned goods are at the top of the import ranking. With a total of 3.25 million USD. The country does not have a well-developed processing sector.
