Carrefour to test the Atacadao concept in Europe
MD
Atacadao is the hypermarket that looks like a warehouse - the products are simply on pallets. This concept from Carrefour originating in Brazil will soon arrive in Europe.
According to an interview with L'Expansion magazine, the director of Carrefour, Lars Oloffson wants to test the Atacadao store concept in Europe. The stores offer products 15% cheaper than hypermarkets and costs are lower. Atacadao looks like a warehouse: no shelves, products on pallets on the floor, no expenses for marketing and merchandising, and half the personnel of a traditional supermarket.
Atacadao is aimed at individuals and professionals (small grocery stores, retailers). Prices have a dual display for retail sales or wholesale. Atacadao recorded sales growth of 12% last year. Bought 4 years ago by Carrefour, it has over thirty stores in Brazil. Carrefour has begun exporting the concept with a first opening in Colombia.
