Taiwan imposes temporary ban on French apple imports after pest discovery.
Taiwan's Council of Agriculture (COA) has reportedly halted imports of French apples following the discovery of an infestation of codling moth larvas in a shipment.
According to the Taipei Times, the larvae were found on 16 October in a shipment containing 1,029 crates of Gala apples. The COA said the find marks the first time the pest has been discovered in apple shipments from Europe.
The Taiwanese authorities subsequently asked the French government to halt exports to Taiwan until the cause of the infestation is identified, while all shipments on route will be subject to comprehensive checking.
France exported some 586 tons of apples to Taiwan last year, according to the COA.
