Longo's acquires e-grocer

Independent Canadian grocery chain Longo Brothers Fruit Markets Inc has acquired Grocery Gateway's online grocery business. Despite its reputation for customer service and reliability, Grocery Gateway has failed to make a profit since it was founded in 1998. Longo's will operate the online business using its own supply network, which will greatly reduce operating expenses. Longo Brothers Fruit Markets operates 14 stores in the Greater Toronto Area.
