Healthy rains for artichokes and citrus fruits

In the province of Alicante, these rains have saved the countryside of vegetables, including artichokes and are also very beneficial to citrus fruits.
ASAJA ALICANTE, the association of young farmers, comments on the episode of heavy rains that the region has just experienced as a rescue "in extremis" of the artichoke campaigns and a beneficial aid to the increase of the caliber of the citrus fruits.
The province of Alicante has been suffering from the effects of drought for months, the heavy rains last weekend are a real relief for professionals of Fruits & Vegetables. The rain has fallen slowly and steadily for more than 12 hours, accumulating more water than in the last 8 months. Thus, the area of Vega Baja received a precipitation level of 44 l./m2 and the area of Baix Vinalopó 64 l./m2.
"Gold fallen from the sky" according to farmers in the province. This rainfall will significantly improve the production of artichokes and allow to extend the harvest period by an additional month. For lemons and late oranges these rains are also very beneficial and favorable to the increase of the caliber, important factor for the marketing of the fruits.
