Peru begins to export citrus fruit to Uruguay
VU
The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation of Peru (Midagri) reported on the beginning of citrus exports to Uruguay, after the final agreements were established for access for oranges, mandarins, tangelos and lemons.
The phytosanitary requirements for the export of mentioned products will be published on the web portal of the National Service of Agrifood Health and Quality of Uruguay.
Miguel Quevedo, the head of Peru's National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa), stressed that access to the Uruguayan market will provide opportunities for Peruvian producers, at the same time contributing to the economy of the agricultural sector.
The Uruguayan authority requires that shipments be free of quarantine pests and that they have a Phytosanitary Export Certificate issued by Senasa. Products such as orange, tangerine, tangelo and grapefruit will undergo a quarantine cold treatment to control fruit flies. However, this treatment is not necessary in the case of lemon.
Uruguay joins the list of 45 destinations to which Peru exports these fruits today, the most important being the United States, Panama, Chile, Bolivia, and European countries.
