Madagascar lychees arrive in Europe

The two ships carrying 14,000 tons of lychees will reach the port of Zeebrugge , one the Friday, December 11 , another Tuesday, December 15 .

Lychees from Madagascar arrived in time for the Christmas season , a period of high consumption of fruit in Europe. In this market, lychees from Madagascar are competing with lychees from South Africa , Mozambique, Mauritius and the island of Reunion.

Lychee exports are expected to reach between 20 and 22 000 tonnes this season. Madagascar provides, in addition to the European market , to ship lychees to Arab countries (Dubai , Saudi Arabia) .
