Chiquita disappointed with EU tariff ruling

Chiquita Brands has said that it is disappointed with the EU's endorsement of a proposal to introduce a tariff on EUR 176 per tonne on imports of Latin American bananas next year. Chiquita believes that the proposal violates World Trade Organisation rules. If the proposal is ratified it would increase tariff costs on bananas imported by Chiquita by approximately US$110 million per year.
