Citrus production in the southern hemisphere is expected to decline by 0.3% compared to last year.
An estimate of citrus production in the southern hemisphere has been published following the meeting of Freshfel / SHAFFE.
According to preliminary estimates, citrus production in the southern hemisphere is expected to reach 7,694,943 tons, down 0.3% compared to last year's volumes. Oranges represent 3,726,801 tons (0.9%), soft citrus 1,468,239 (18.50%), while lemons will drop 10.24
% to 1,926,874, and grapefruit 3.07% to 573,029 .
Exports from the southern hemisphere are expected to increase 1.67% over 2011. By categories, exports of oranges, lemons and sweet citrus will increase by 2.06%, 6.82% and 2% respectively over the 2011 season. Grapefruit exports are expected to fall by 9.25%.
