The country produces several varieties of mangoes which can thus meet the preferences of each market.
The Dominican Republic' Minister of Agriculture has announced that income from mango exports will exceed this $40 million, doubling 2018 figures.
According to the minister, the country has increased its mango exports by 138.8% in the first quarter of 2019 with 3,272 tons, compared to 1,412 tons shipped in the first quarter of 2018. Among export markets are Germany, England, Spain, France and the Netherlands.
The government, in partnership with producers, has invested more than 100 million pesos ($1.9 million) in the construction of a new processing and packaging site. This new facility will help strengthen and increase shipments to existing markets and open new markets (China, Japan ...).
Last year, mangos' exports generated more than $16 million. The goal is to double that figure by 2020.
