New Zealand cherries will attend the Chinese New Year
For New Zealand cherries, destined for sale throughout Asia during the New Year's celebrations of the Chinese calendar, special flights are organized.
Singapore Airlines is planning several journey, each carrying up to 95 tons of fruit on the Christchurch-Singapore route, for the distribution to markets in Southeast and North Asia. The airline plans to carry approximately 300 tonnes of cherries and other festive products, such as lobster and crayfish. Other cargoes of cherries will also be carried on board passenger flights.
The production of cherries in New Zealand should be very satisfactory. Professionals do not anticipate rainfall until 28 January (Chinese New Year) and plan to export about 50 million NZD (33 million euros) worth of cherries this year.
