LED technology for growing vegetables in this PANASONIC "indoor" farm in Singapore.
At the initiative of the Japanese technology firm PANASONIC an "indoor" farm has been set up in Singapore. Using LED lights for crops it already records a production of 80 tons of vegetables per year.
PANASONIC began this operation in an area of 2670 square foot (248 m2) which produced 3.6 tons of vegetables a year at its beginnings. Since the farm has quadrupled its area and multiplied its production. Already 40 varieties of crops (lettuce, mini red radishes ...) grow there and the objective is to add 30 additional varieties this year.
For the time being the production of the farm counts for 0,015% of the products grown in the country but its managers hope to amplify it and to be able to reach 5%. Recall that Singapore imports more than 90% of its food currently, "indoor" farms like this one could make the country much more self-sufficient in the future.
