Strong competition for apples
New Zealand
Wednesday 20 February 2002
Since five years, New Zealand has been really close by Chile - the world's leading exporter - in terms of apple production. In 2000-01, New Zealand exported 20 million cartons, that is to say 25% more than in 1999. Nevertheless, New Zealand remains vigilant and gets ready to face competition from the Southern Hemisphere (Chile, Argentina, South Africa) with higher volumes and better quality than ever.
