An unidentified virus in a major wheat production area.
MLK
This region, which lies on the border of Bulgaria, grows wheat on 1.2 million hectares. This virus accelerates the yellowing of wheat. According to the President of the Edirne farmers' Chamber, chemical disinfestation had no effect on viruses and samples were taken and sent to the agricultural faculty of the Aegean University in an attempt to identify the virus and thus the means to counter it.
High temperatures this winter could have influenced the development of this virus, which began in Edirne and threatens to spread throughout the Marmara region. This virus was detected for the first time at the border of Bulgaria in a neighboring village.
Edirne wheat producers have said it was the first time they detected this virus, which in the space of 10 days, has spread throughout the region, like yellow rust. This virus prevents the development of cob corn and could therefore affect the production.
