For Banacol which has just entered its 30th year, the year has been difficult and challenging but sales should improve in 2011.
The export company Banacol which represents 44% of agricultural exports from Colombia, has just entered its 30th year and announced satisfactory sales despite the difficulties.
Banacol has celebrated its 30th anniversary on November 19th. The company president, Mr Victor Henriquez, announced sales of more than 550 million U.S. dollars.
"It was a challenging year for the industry of fruit and vegetables." The sector has faced many challenges: exchange rates, devastating climate and declining demand.
Banacol has more than 10,000 hectares of crops in Colombia and Costa Rica. Banacol plans to produce 27 million boxes of products, including 12 million in the pineapple.
Sales should improve in 2011, the output of the economic crisis will increase demand. Exports could benefit from membership of Colombia at the forum Asia - Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
