Citrus production in Spain in the 2021/2022 campaign is estimated to decrease by 4.8% compared to the previous year. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain (MAPA) projects a production of 6,705 million tons.

The contraction in production will be seen more in small citrus fruits and lemons, the species that increased their production the most in the previous season.

The volume of oranges is projected to remain stable (+ 0.4%), with an expected total of 3,511,079 tons, representing 52.4% of total production. 73% will correspond to the Navel variety.

The production of small citrus fruits would total 2,083,000 tons, 31% of the total, and the main variety would be clementines (51%).

Lemon production would reach 1,011,458 tons (15% of total), grapefruit 84,010 tons (1.25%). The other citrus fruits, including bitter orange, would accumulate some 11,197 tons, 0.17% of the total.

Production volume in the 2020/2021 citrus campaign, which ended on August 31, totaled 7,045 million tons, an increase of 12.6% compared to 2019/20.
