Good growing conditions have kept lettuce and other vegetables below earlier price levels.
Vegetable prices in South Korea have recently stabilised as larger volumes reach wholesale markets, MAFRA said. The ministry pointed to lettuce and other vegetables, where favourable crop conditions have increased shipments and kept prices below both year-earlier and average levels.
The ministry also noted that different retail-price surveys can give different pictures of the market because they cover different types and numbers of stores. For agricultural products, MAFRA referred to daily data collected through the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation’s KAMIS system when assessing current price trends.
With Chuseok approaching, authorities plan to continue checking the supply of high-demand agricultural products. Additional supply and consumer discount measures are also planned to limit price pressure during the holiday period.
