Tomate war between Mexico and the USA
MD
After 16 years of free trade, the United States will ban imports of Mexican tomatoes.
Florida producers had requested the suspension of imports due to commercial dumping. Mexican tomatoes were sold at prices below the cost of American production.
The Department of Commerce agreed with this view. The U.S. government will review the situation and initiate consultations and the final decision is expected within a maximum period of 270 days.
Florida has the second largest tomato production in the United States, and is a crucial area to win the presidential election on November 6.
