The overall volume of the orange market is still expected to decline in 2016.
The "citrus greening" disease persists in areas affecting production yields. Demand is stagnant or has even declined in major markets. The global orange marketvhas recorded negative growth (-7.00%) over the last 2 years. Market volume decreased to 61.1 million tons in 2015 and the trend should be the same for 2016.
Regarding production, the average annual rate from 2010 to 2014 reached 2.8% in Brazil and the United States. Instead, China has experienced a production growth of 4.8% for the same period.
The demand for fresh oranges also decreased. From 2010 to 2014, per capita consumption declined by about 2% almost everywhere excepting China which sees average consumption spending to 4.5 kg / person / year. The global average is about 5 kg / person / year, the world record consumption of fresh oranges is detained by Brazil with 26.4 kg / person / year. Brazil also is one of the largest producers in the world with 16,540 thousand tonnes in 2014.
