Putumayo pineapple growers turn to bioinputs for crop nutrition

Pineapple growers in Villagarzón, Putumayo, have received practical training in making and using agricultural bioinputs, reports Colombia’s Agricultural Institute (ICA). The session involved producers from the ASOHOROPI association and formed part of ICA’s field-school programme.

Growers were shown how to prepare and apply a mineral-based bioinput, with guidance on dosage, preparation conditions and safe use. ICA presented the product as a complementary crop-nutrition tool that can be made with relatively accessible materials and gradually reduce dependence on synthetic inputs.

The training was also tied to phytosanitary management. According to ICA, improving crop nutrition can help plants handle stress and become less vulnerable to pests and diseases, while better production conditions can support future access to commercial and international markets.
