Confirmation of the trend observed in recent years in Switzerland: the areas dedicated to market gardening and organic production continue to grow.

The success of market gardening and organic production continues in Switzerland. With enviable growth rates (+ 24% and + 5%) according to the FSO, the Federal Statistical Office.

 
OFS has unveiled the results of its annual study of agricultural structures. In 2017, Switzerland had 51,620 farms (43,600 with livestock), which is 643 fewer farms than in 2016. The area devoted to vegetable crops (12,600 ha) is divided between 4,100 farms, an increase of 24% between 2012 and 2017.
 
 
 
The success of organic production is confirmed with 6,638 farms that practiced it in 2017, an increase of 5%.
 
 
 
In 2017, of the 1.05 million hectares of utilized agricultural area (UAA) developed by agricultural holdings, 14% was devoted to organic farming (151,400 hectares). The majority of total UAA consists of natural grasslands and pastures.
