Japan reports no pesticide residue limit breaches in domestic produce

Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) found no pesticide residue violations in its latest survey of domestically produced agricultural products.

The ministry checked pesticide use at 117 farming operations, covering 981 applications. It said pesticides had been used correctly at all of the farms included in the survey.

MAFF also analysed 117 agricultural samples, covering a total of 594 pesticide-crop combinations. None contained pesticide residues above the limits established under Japan’s Food Sanitation Act.

The results will be shared with prefectural authorities, which will continue advising producers on the correct use of pesticides.

MAFF said the monitoring programme is also continuing during the current fiscal year.
