US lettuce prices rise 32% in June

Potatoes recorded a far smaller increase than lettuce and tomatoes.
US retail lettuce prices were 32.1% higher in June than during the same month of 2025, according to the USDA Economic Research Service.
Tomato prices also remained elevated, rising 19.5% year on year. Fresh potato prices showed a much smaller increase of 1.4%.
Despite the annual rise, overall fresh vegetable prices fell 1.2% between May and June. They remained 9.9% above the previous year’s level.
ERS expects fresh vegetable prices to increase by an average of 6.8% in 2026. Its forecast range runs from 4.3% to 9.5%, reflecting uncertainty over how prices may develop during the rest of the year.
Fresh fruit prices followed a milder trend. They declined 0.9% month on month but were 2% higher than in June 2025. ERS also forecasts a 2% average increase for the full year.
