Higher volumes expected for the melon and watermelon season

The province of Almeria is the first Spanish province for watermelon export and the second for melon export. As surfaces have grown, this year's volumes are up.

 

 

 

For watermelon, the area has increased from 9,806 hectares (2017/18 campaign) to 10,100 hectares for this season. Production of 558 200 tonnes from the previous season will be exceeded. The projected volumes are 580 000 tonnes.

 

 

 

For melon, surfaces increased by 8% from 2,290 hectares to 2,473 hectares. Production from the previous season had exceeded 93,500 tons, this year they could reach 99,800 tons.
