Around 30-35 % of fruits and vegetables are wasted each year due to lack of post-harvest facilities and the absence of linkages to the processors and markets, according to Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP).
india produces nearly 300 million tons of food products which includes grain, cereals, pulses, fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, poultry and marine products. But most of them are marketed fresh in and around the producing centre.
