Daily precipitation could exceed 50 mm in parts of Piura, with more frequent rainfall expected from November.
Heavy rainfall is forecast for northern Peru between October 24 and 26, with conditions expected to intensify in some areas as El Niño Costero develops, according to Peru's National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi).
In the Tumbes region, daily rainfall could approach 80 mm in the provinces of Tumbes and Zarumilla. Accumulations exceeding 50 mm are expected in Sullana and Piura, while mountainous areas of Piura could receive more than 30 mm per day.
Senamhi warned that localized downpours could cause flooding in urban areas, trigger flows through normally dry ravines and increase river levels in Tumbes.
The agency also expects rainfall in northern coastal areas to become more frequent and intense from November as El Niño Costero 2026–2027 develops.
Senamhi continues to monitor atmospheric and ocean conditions and issue updated weather alerts. Regional and local authorities have been advised to strengthen preparations in areas exposed to flooding and river overflows.
