Production in the 5 NEPG countries (Germany, Belgium, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands) will be around 27 to 27.5 million tonnes of potatoes (Photo: twitter.AHDB_Potatoes).
NEPG (North West European Potato Growers) estimates that 2019 production will be about 3% higher than the five-year average and about 12% higher compared to 2018.
For the 5 NEPG countries, 2019 production is estimated at around 27 to 27.5 million tonnes. This represents an increase of about 3% from the five-year average and about 12% from 2018.
This year, the increase of the total harvest will not be done by the yield, but by the increase of the surfaces. All NEPG countries, with the exception of Great Britain, sowed more potatoes with, in particular, a notable increase in France of 14% compared to the five-year average.
The average yield for the 5 countries, for the moment, is estimated at 44.7 tonnes / hectare, compared to 47.1 t / ha of the five-year average. Last year, because of a severe drought, the yield was only 40.9 t / ha.
