Soybeans, the main US agricultural product imported into China, are the main target of these measures, which will also affect other fruits.
In China an additional customs tariff of 25% will come into force on July 6th on 500 US products including agricultural products.
The Customs Commission of the State Council of China has announced that a tariff of 25% will come into force on July 6th on various US products including agricultural products.
The list includes soybeans (34 billion USD in 2016), fresh fruits including cherries, strawberries, apples and citrus fruits, dried fruits including almonds, walnuts and pistachios.
This period of trade tensions between the two countries has just passed a new stage. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said that the country would immediately introduce tariffs on the same scale as those decided by the United States. The ministry also said the results of previous trade negotiations were now canceled.
