The Peruvian Hass Avocado Producers Association (ProHass) has revised its export projection for the country's avocado shipments in 2023, now expecting to export 598,344 tons, down from the initial estimate of over 630,000 tons made in March.
This new projection is even lower than the 624,000 tons announced by ProHass in January and represents only an 8% increase compared to the 554,299 tons dispatched in 2022. Until a few months ago, a 14% growth was anticipated for the current year.
Juan Carlos Paredes, President of ProHass, attributes this setback to a harvest yielding fruits that are 10% to 15% smaller due to the effects of the La Niña phenomenon in 2022. The estimated shipments to Europe in 2023 have also been adjusted from 358,685 to 341,850 tons.
ProHass anticipates a growth of approximately 10% in exports for the year 2024. As for 2023, they forecast that the demand will remain steady, growing between 6% and 8% annually both at the national and international levels.
