The European Commission will spend €200.9 million in 2020 to fund EU agri-food promotional activities, inside and outside the EU.
The EU's agri-food promotion policy aims to help the sector to benefit from the expansion and growing dynamics of the global agrifood market, to raise awareness of different quality systems and labels (PGI, DOP ..) including organic products and to help producers.
In 2020, more than half of the budget (€ 118 million) will go to campaigns targeting non-EU markets with high growth potential, such as Canada, China, Japan, Korea, Mexico and the United States. The selected campaigns should increase the competitiveness and consumption of EU agri-food products, improve the visibility of these products and increase their market share in the targetted countries.
The campaigns will also inform consumers in the EU and around the world about different EU quality systems and labels, such as geographical indications or organic products. The campaigns will also aim to highlight the high standards of safety and quality, as well as the diversity and traditional aspects of EU agri-food products.
Finally, within the EU, the focus will be on promoting a healthy diet and increasing the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables as part of a balanced diet.
In 2019, these promotion programs with EU co-financing amounted a total of 191 million euro and to 179 million euro for 2018.
