VU
In Tucumán (Argentina), within the framework of a public-private blueberry improvement program developed by the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Buenos Aires, and the agricultural firm EarlyCrop S.A., a new variety of blueberry named Naike has been created.
This new variety is characterized by good firmness, a long post-harvest life and a rich flavor, said Gustavo Schrauf, head of the Genetics Chair of the Faculty of Agronomy of the UBA and member of the project, to a local media.
He added that the knowledge acquired during 6 years of the development of Naike can be also applied in the development of other varieties, and specified that the genetics department of the UBA is already carrying out research on tomato improvement.
The scientist concluded that Naike is suitable for organic production and in the near future it will be available for sale not only in Argentina, but throughout the world.
