Auchan looks at Esselunga

The President of the French group Auchan is considering the possibility of acquisitions in Italy through wish retailer Esselunga a target.

In an interview with the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, Vianney Mulliez, president of the French retailer, has suggested that external growth in Italy is a possibility. "If Esselunga was put on the market, we would review the matter," said Mr Mulliez.

Italy’s Esselunga operates 143 outlets and sales in 2010 reached 6.4 billion euros.
